Ko Lan Photo Diary

Ko Lan Photo Diary

A few weeks ago, my friends and I took a few days off of work to drink rum and coconut juice on a beach in Thailand so that we could get our visas renewed.

Olivia and I booked a quaint little bed and breakfast on Ko Lan, an island just off the coast of Pattaya. We were pleasantly surprised when we had a beaaaautiful ocean view. In the mornings, you could see the sun rising from our balcony. Clare and Kooper booked a hostel on the other side of the island, but we were only within a 5 minute drive of each other.

Of course, the first thing we wanted to do was rent a motorbike. We didn't even have to ask for this hot pink one. The guy who rented it to us just saw us and knew. We were pretty happy about it.

Most of our weekend was spent on the crystal blue beaches tanning, swimming, reading, and chatting.

We also spent a lot of time eating, which is my favourite activity. This island was full of seafood, and I adore seafood. Thai food is traditionally really spicy, and I’m slightly embarrassed to say that a dish I ate was so spicy that I was almost physically sick and spent the next 10 minutes after my meal sucking on ice cubes.

On Saturday morning, Olivia and I woke up at 6am to watch the sunrise on the beach. It was gorgeous. It was just us and about 10 stray dogs who loved following us around. It’s a good thing I got my rabies shots.

On our last evening, Kooper and I walked up to a gazebo to watch the sunset. Surprisingly, it was just us up there which made us feel like we had the whole island to ourselves. In the distance, you could see cruise ships gliding past and hear the waves of the ocean. I’ve seen many beautiful sunsets around the world, and this was one of the best.

There were many things I wanted to take pictures of, but sometimes I found myself picking up my camera and then putting it right back down again when I realized that what I was seeing couldn’t be captured in a photo because it was just too pretty. On Sunday morning, we went back to Bangkok and flew back to Hanoi, so going back to work this week.
